Thanksgiving Year Round

Well it finally happened...
The golf season ended - even though there is no frost to be seen and the average temperature this past week was 60 degrees. (Sorry Polar Bears; but thank you Global Warming).
... Meaning- I am officially unemployed.
No, I have not joined Occupy Providence despite the roller coaster of emotions I have endured these past weeks. My behavior has been as constant as the New England weather...everything from surges of impulsiveness, (almost bought a one way ticket to Florida) eating away my depression, to days of empowerment, hope and productivity, and right back to what feels like certified crazy.
My mood today? Pure Bliss. In light of the recent Holiday, I have a lot to be thankful for. And although some days are harder than others, I must remind myself to be grateful for these things every day and not just national Holidays.
I am still coming down from my high from one of the best weeks in my life. 10 days of true happiness. I had a great Thanksgiving with loved ones - the final count was 33. I have a HUGE family to say the least. Not to mention activities after activities! To give you a snap shot of the week- I had my first Bruins game, a night at the Biltmore Hotel in Providence, I successfully made my own pizza out of a brick oven , and did it all with great friends- old and new.
The best part of it all- an interview. LinkedIn has finally proved itself worthy. Advice: follow smaller companies. There is a good chance to get on their radar compared to a huge corporation.
My Job-hunt thus far has consisted of mainly major corporations, but now more than ever am I loving the idea of working for a smaller company. This consulting firm has a culture unique from any other. I was fortunate to meet with five associates, one including the CEO, all who value team work, unity and an overall understanding of respect regardless of status. That was very apparent to me from the minute I walked in and until the hour and a half later when the President himself walked me to the door.
It has me thinking a smaller company is the way to go. Especially after reading 10 pros of working for a small company.
#TheJobHuntContinues but I am thankful for each and every opportunity... TO BE CONTINUED.

I'm here! I'm here!

What?! Did you think I was never going to write again?!

...I'm just still trying to catch my breath. This building has been occupying every waking moment of mine. I promise a post is coming soon!

Trick- or -Treat

...The infamous saying we are all accustomed to during Halloween. Usually you think of happy children at their neighbor's door, waiting to be be awarded with some sort of treat. I can't help but apply it to the present stage in my life.
I will start with the latter.
The Treat:
For Khiara; she has fulfilled our blog's #1 mission - land a job. Not only in NYC but at Glamour Magazine.
For myself; I had an interview. Not only in NYC, but at MTV Networks ! AND just had a phone interview this morning with an HR from Hill Holliday.
The Trick:
For my Co- Blogger; To survive- literally. After college loans, NY taxes and train fees, her allocated budget alone to find a place to live, never mind eating , is scary.
For myself; The horrific feeling of actually being unemployed for the first time. With the golf course coming to a close, my source of income will also. I have been proud of the money I have saved all season, but in reality, without additional income it will be spent fast. Watching Khiara struggle financially frightens me. As elated as I would be to get a job in the city, I could be in the same situation if an offer comes too late and my "cushion fund" is gone. Not to mention the feeling after one interview after another - the phrases such as, " keep on checking in to see if a position opens" feels like a trick. Is anyone really hiring!?!
All I know is- ghost and goblins are not the things frightening me around this time of year. The only dressing up I have been doing...is putting on heels and business suits AND I continue to knock on doors.

Too Blessed To Be Stressed

I'm making my way to the Big Apple this Saturday. Can you believe it?! That's like, less than 48 hours away. There is still so much packing to do, so many people to see, and more preparation to be done. This past week (with the exception of getting my last two wisdom teeth removed) has been so wonderful. I've been taking in every Rhode Island moment I can, and seeing those precious faces that will no longer be at my beck and call a few hours from now.

Wine Tasting in Newport with my man

Taking in my last moments at The Wall

On top of a sushi date, Tidal Waves, word puzzles, a superhero breakfast, and a rerun of The Devil Wears Prada...I could not have asked for a better week.

Today I spent my last time at Sophies Coffe with Gessenia preparing for her interview tomorrow (!!!) and jamming out to Paradise by Coldplay...

I am so thankful for the love and support I have gotten from all of my friends and family. It has been such an amazing journey these past five months and there is no way on earth I would have made it through without their encouraging words, optimism and faith in me. My biggest thank you goes to Gessenia- the one I could count on to get me back on my feet, to push me to keep moving forward, and to remind me of all the reasons why I made the choices and I did (even on the days I didn't want to hear it). I love you with all my heart!

We expect the world.

Soda, Water, Beer Anyone? How About a PR Rep?

It's October, and here I am driving around a golf cart- once again. It's hard to believe it's been over four months since my first post that was about the same exact activity. This time the weather is colder, and frankly, so is my attitude.
It's hard not to have a pity party when you're 21 -years-old driving a golf cart with a fanny pack and a four year college degree. But I'll stop there.  I know I have a lot to be thankful for.
I have a job that has allowed me to save a lot of money... with the fact that I'm not spending much because living with my roommates helps ( mom and dad).  I have my health and support from loved ones. And above all, I have a few leads in the next few weeks. Too premature to talk about- but for the sake of my ego I will mention them anyway. GTECH, MTV, and Hill Holiday. That's all I can say for now, until the next news worthy post, all I can do is keep truckin'... well, in this case, carting.

Decisively Spontaneous

If there is one thing that Gessenia and I are amazing at (besides blogging) it's making the most out of a day spent together.

This past Monday, the Tripod was accompanied by my sister for a night out celebrating the new job (AHH...I still can't believe it's real). We got drinks and apps at a bar called Zooma in Providence and since we're graduates, two drinks were enough to make us laugh a little louder than usual.

Thursday we celebrated Dave's 23rd birthday at Scorpion Bar at Foxwoods. Unfortunately I was slightly out of commission seeing as though I had two of my wisdom teeth removed earlier that day. By the end of the night, everyone knew I thought something was funny when I would slap my leg repeatedly, however there was no code needed for when I was feeling the music. We all took over the dance floor when  the DJ played Avicii- "Levels" followed by Rihanna's "We Found Love"

Yesterday, it was a record 80 degrees outside- so obviously not wanting to waste the amazing weather- Gessenia invited me to take a trip to Newport for their annual Oktoberfest. It's still a mystery whether we made it "there" or not. We were never greeted with ginormous mugs of beer or crazy music (something I had pictured) but we did make our way around town grabbing a few drinks along the way. It was a perfect afternoon catching up and enjoying Rhode Island. We headed home just in time to witness an awesome sunset over the Newport Bridge. And let me tell you, the water looked pretty amazing.

"Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish"

....said by a man who has forever imprinted the technological industry, America, and the world. Many before us have lived through pivotal eras. There were people to witness the transformation in lifestyles when the T.V. was established, or the Microwave etc. etc. I was alive for the iEverything era.

I believe more than now, people need a Hero. When phrases like "times are tough" and "double dip recession" and "unemployment" become a part of our everyday vocabulary, it is easy for people to lose sight of the American dream. Steve Jobs was living proof that no idea is too extreme, and the only boundaries that limit us, is fear itself.

And my best friend is a testimony to that. Khiara is, and has always been, Hungry. ( Yes for Chocolate) for a vision. People thought it was "foolish" that she turned down a respectable job and endured a summer working at a golf course and babysitting. Now months later, she has one. The one she wanted. And I am more than confident that hunger in her is not nearly filled, because she will continuously do whatever it takes to get to the next step.

For the realist out there. Yes, there are bills to pay and your first job wont be your favorite . I agree. But whats the point of proceeding in the path that youre "suppose to take", if it doesnt give you selfworth, happiness, experience, and appease your hunger. Take the road less traveled.
